You think that you are informed about what happened at Guantánamo and you are astonished that President Obama is reluctant to close this torture centre. You are wrong. You don’t know the underlying purpose of this “facility” and why it is vital for the current administration. Thierry Meyssan wrote this article in November 2009. Subsequent developments have proven him right: plans to close Guantánamo have been put on hold indefinitely.

In his inaugural speech in January 2009, US president Barack Obama promised a new beginning in foreign policy towards Iran, saying “we will extend a hand if you are willing to un-clench your fist”. He didn’t actually mention Iran by name then, but everyone knew he was saying that the Bush administration’s confrontational approach to the Islamic Republic was being replaced by a more reasonable policy based on mutual dialogue.

Can a security council ‘coalition of the unwilling’ defy Washington’s sanctions crusade?

Posted by seumasach on May 20, 2010

Sanctions that don’t work vs. diplomacy that does

The U.S. crusade for new UN sanctions against Iran has been underway for a long time. But the new intensity, the new scurrying around to make sure China and Russia are on board, and the new scramble for an immediate public announcement all reflect Washington’s frustration with the new agreement with Iran brokered by Turkey and Brazil. That agreement requires Iran to send about half of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in return for somewhat higher-enriched prepared fuel rods for use in its medical reactor, which is pretty close to what the U.S. and its allies were demanding of Iran just months ago.

Cell phone radiation dangers-witness statement by Andrew Goldsworthy

Posted by seumasach on May 20, 2010

I am attaching a copy of a Witness Statement that I sent in response to a request from the Standing Committee on Health of the Canadian House of Commons. It covers many aspects of the non-thermal effects of cell phone radiation, but perhaps the most important observation is that the greatest threat to mankind comes from its effects on sperm, which can lead to infertility and progressive genetic damage to future generations. However, unlike the Interphone study, which took many years to reach even inconclusive results, the effects on sperm can be shown clearly in a matter of days and used to assess the biological safety of virtually all forms of wireless telecommunications.

Strategy shift in the Middle East

16th May, 2010
The failure to reshape the Greater Middle East has left the field open to a new alliance, the Tehran-Damascus-Ankara triangle. Since nature is allergic to vacuums, Moscow is filling the space left vacant by Washington. The wind has changed and it’s blowing strong. In a matter of a few months, the entire regional balance of power has tipped.

The German government has had enough

The Market Ticker

18th May, 2010

If you thought the German government was going to be a lapdog for Sarcozy, or worse, was going to fellate Brussels and the ECB, you got a rude shock today.

It appears that the German Government has just plain had enough of the crap that the banksters have tried to pull, and has decided to do what Barack Obama should have done in early 2009.

Germany bans naked credit default swaps!

Posted by seumasach on May 19, 2010

This is a dramatic move through which Germany have acted unilaterally by-passing EU structures. By the look of it, other countries may follow. Europe can only survive by erecting a firewall against City of London financial viruses.

Bloomberg

19th May, 2010

Credit-default swaps on Europe’s most indebted governments fell on concern Germany’s curb on using the contracts to insure sovereign debt will choke the market and devalue existing agreements.
