Visiting Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Ankara will not allow the military bases of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Turkey to be used for military purposes against other countries, Iran’s English language Press TV reported Wednesday.
Every military facility in Turkey is under the control of Turkish commanders, Gul said in an exclusive interview with Press TV Tuesday.
“Without our knowledge, nothing can happen there (in the bases), ” he was quoted as saying.
Gul said Turkey supports Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and would play a constructive role in Iran’s nuclear program in the future, said the report.
“We want to see this dispute solved in a peaceful way, through diplomacy and dialogue,” he added.
The Turkish president arrived in Iran on Sunday for an official four-day visit.
