Sources: Abbas to resign

There is some truth in this Haaretz’ opinion “Israeli rejection of Gaza deal may topple Abbas” because Kuwaiti newspaper Awan revealed today that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told his aides that he wants to resign from his post and call for new elections. Abbas don’t want to lead the Palestinian Authority under the current political circumstances.
Probably the best candidate to succeed Abbas is Marwan Barghouti, who oppose the killings of the Israeli civilians.
The newspaper quotes Barghouti saying:
We tried seven years of intifada without negotiations, and then we tried seven years of negotiations without intifada, then perhaps we have to try the both.
Interesting is that the article says that this is a demand from the Arabs, the Europeans and the U.S. [Obama wants a new peace partner?]
Opinion:
Barghouti is the only Palestinian capable of unifying the Palestinians, I am not sure if this is what the Israelis wants to achieve
