Massive anti-Israel march pushed- Canada

Organizers called on thousands of supporters to march on the Israeli consulate today to protest the two-week-old Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip and demand the Canadian government take a stronger stand to support a UN resolution for a ceasefire.

Israel’s aerial bombardment of the Gaza strip has killed 750 people, Farid Ayad, president of Palestine House, said yesterdday.

“We need to put pressure on our Canadian government to urgently ask Israel for a ceasefire. This has just turned into an act of killing civilians. People are being slaughtered, houses, hospitals and universities are being demolished,” Ayad said.

“It is hard to believe that instead of working for a lasting solution in the region, the Canadian government’s spokespeople have been blaming Palestinians for this unprecedented Israeli assault on every facet of life in Gaza.”

LARGE DEMO

At 11 a.m. today, a coalition of organizations, including labour unions and faith groups, will hold a rally outside the Israeli Consulate to coincide with demonstrations in other major cities worldwide to protest the war. Last Saturday, more than 10,000 people rallied in Toronto in the largest Palestine solidarity demonstration in decades.

In Montreal, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Canada supports an “effective and durable” ceasefire in Gaza. He said at a news conference that both Israel and Hamas are responsible for coming to such an agreement. The Conservatives have long asserted that the Palestinians’ duly elected Hamas government is a terrorist group.

Israel launched a heavy air bombardment Dec. 27 in response to intensified rocket fire on its southern towns. A week later, troops moved in, with artillery and tank fire. The Palestinian death toll stands at around 780, according to Gaza health officials.

Thirteen Israelis have been killed.

One Response to “Massive anti-Israel march pushed- Canada”

The conclusive solution to silence radical Palestinian groups will be to establish an international military force to police Gaza and the West Bank headed by a contagion of forces from the more secular Arab countries to ensure the smooth transition to a strong Palestinian state. If there is a well crafted plan to create a Palestinian state, I think most of the Arab countries will readily send troops to help develop a viable Palestinian state.
A peaceful Middle East will definitely have a lot of ramifications. A peaceful Middle East will stem the tide and accelerate a decline in radical Islam. There is no greater hope than that the Israelis and Palestinians get tired of their tortuous past full of wars then sit down and work towards a peaceful Middle East.
