Progressive Librarians Guild Statement on WiFi in Libraries and the Precautionary Principle

Posted by seumasach on June 22, 2008

Often unaware of the potential risks to both library staff and the public, libraries have adopted wireless technology as a means to bridge the Digital Divide and in order to fulfill their mission under the Library Bill of Rights.

Research on the health effects of wireless technologies (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands) and electromagnetic (microwave) radiation indicates wireless technology, among other effects, may cause immune dysfunction, increased risk of brain tumors and acoustic neuromas, childhood cancers, breast cancer, Alzheimer’s disease (European Environment Agency, Bioinitiative Working Group, 2007),  and genotoxicity. Research also indicates that public health standards are inadequate in offering guidance on the use of wireless technologies in community spaces.

Posted by smeddum on June 21, 2008

Salmon like honeybees are affected by electromagnetic forces. ( see article)

DELHI – The Middle East took a great leap forward this week to the post-George W Bush era. Israel’s dramatic shift of glance to the forces of political Islam sums it up. “Today we have concurrent peace negotiations with both the Syrians and the Palestinians and there is no logical reason why there should also not be talks with the Lebanese,” Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s spokesman Mark Regev said in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

The Mann Plot-France Checkmated NATO

31 AUGUST 2004

The spectacular arrest of Mark Thatcher (British Iron Lady’s son) in South Africa and the confessions of his accomplices in Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea clarified completely the fail coup against this country. The operation was not organized by adventurers or mercenaries paid by international financiers, but by NATO. The U.S. had mobilized the British and Spanish services to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang and take control of the country to build the largest gas-liquefying station of the world. By doing this, the U.S. would have taken the French oil company Total out of the market thus favoring Spanish Repsol. But France knew about the operation and made it fail.

The death knell was sounded for the cheap fixed mortgage tonight as Britain’s biggest lender raised rates by up to 0.5 per cent.

Halifax – which provides one in five new mortgages – pushed up the cost of more than half of its fixed-rate deals.

It became the last of the ‘Big Four’ to impose massive rate rises on cash-strapped homeowners this week. Read the rest of this entry »
