Controversial deal with Saudi Arabia catapults Britain to top of last year’s world arms export league(Guardian)

21st June, 2008

A controversial deal with Saudi Arabia catapulted Britain to the top of the world arms export league last year, as UK firms won a record £10bn in orders from overseas, official figures show.

The figure amounts to a third of all worldwide export orders for military equipment, ministers and arms companies reported. An essentially political, government-to-government contract – the sale of 72 Eurofighter/Typhoon aircraft, for £4.4bn, to the Saudis – accounted for Britain’s number one position, the figures make clear.

Noam Chomsky, Tom Hayden, Brian Wilson: At Work for John Negroponte?

On June 16th the Nicaraguan centre-right newspaper El Nuevo Diario published a letter 1 from various well known people calling for the Nicaraguan coalition government, led by the Sandinista FSLN, not to shut down political freedom and to hold a national dialogue to address the food crisis and the high cost of living in Nicaragua. This appeal was made in solidarity with Dora Maria Tellez, the former president of the neo-liberal social democrat Movimiento Renovador Sandinista. The letter’s signatories end their appeal by saying that Tellez represents a broad section of Nicaraguan political opinion and should be listened to.

The signatories’ response to criticism of their endorsement of the former MRS president’s oportunistically calculated, factitious appeal is likely to be that critics of their letter themselves offer misplaced solidarity the FSLN government does not merit. But a brief review of the facts of the MRS record in the last few years renders the dishonesty and shiftiness of Dora Maria Tellez and her colleagues in the MRS leadership very clear. Apologetics on behalf of the FSLN are superfluous in this case. The facts speak for themselves.

Deportation of Iraqi nationals in the UK.

Posted by seumasach on June 24, 2008

Campaigners and activists gather in Parliament Square to hold a ‘Tent City’ in protest at the British Governments continued programme of deportation of people of Iraqi nationality.

As a result of the invasion and forced occupation of Iraq, many of its citizens have either been killed, fled their homes or been displaced into refugee status. Many have found their way to the EU and UK and claimed asylum status and have asked to stay here. The British government, nevertheless, continue to deport them back to their country of origin and in many cases to a life of chaos and fear.

According to UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) around 4.7 million Iraqis have left their homes since the US/UK led invasion of 2003, and over 2 million have fled out of the country to neighbouring states. In 2006, Iraqis became the leading nationality seeking asylum in Europe.

The Tent-City assembles ‘illegally’ in Parliament Square and does so on the basis that it has not asked Metropolitan Police Authorities for permission under the terms of SOCPA (Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005). Despite this, they still receive permission to assemble from the police despite the fact that no application has been made.

14 die of cancer in seven years living next to phone mast with highest radiation levels in UK

Posted by seumasach on June 23, 2008

A spokesman for the Health Protection Agency said: ‘No concerns have been raised by general practitioners or other local health services in the area about any greater than expected numbers or unusual cases of any serious illnesses.

‘Further contact is being made with local general practices to confirm that they do not have any specific concerns.’

Rather than resorting to the usual straight lie the HPA have chosen the clever tactic of hiding behind the corrupt, Great British medical profession. In Germany thousands of doctors signed the Freiburger Appeal expressing their concern that on “the basis of our daily experiences, we hold the current mobile communications technology(introduced in 1992 and since globally extensive) and chordless digital telephones(DECT standard) to be among the fundamental triggers for this fatal development [ a marked concentration of particular illnesses in correspondingly HFMR polluted areas or apartments.]”

British doctors refused to sign and it would be foolish to expect even a single word from  them.

20th June 2008

Fourteen people living within a mile of a mobile phone mast that emits one of the highest levels of radiation in the country have died of cancer.

HPA keeps lying as prominent scientist reveals possible EM connection to suicides

“There is no evidence that masts do you harm. The levels of radio waves are very low.”

The HPA lying again as the people they are meant to be protecting are being subjected to ever greater exposure to EM radiation. As we keep pointing out, there is ample evidence of health risk.

Sunday June 22,2008

by Lucy Johnston(Sunday Express)

THE spate of deaths among young people in Britain’s suicide capital could be linked to radio waves from dozens of mobile phone transmitter masts near the victims’ homes.
