Bubbles are a wondrous affair, and, according to the aficionados, easy to spot from afar.
The ever insightful US economist Nouriel Roubini reminds us of the sadly predictable cycle of euphoria and despair (first described by Hyman Minsky) with a simple set of stages that starts with investors meeting their investments out of cashflow, which then moves on to speculative borrowers, and finally crashes with Ponzi borrowers who can’t service either the interest or the principal.

US Cities Increasing Use of Armed Mercenaries to Replace Police

26th April, 2009

From Iraq to the streets of American cities, the deployment of private security forces – including Israeli commandos – to take the place of police officers has spiked significantly and is raising grave concerns. Few areas have seen as dramatic a transformation to privatized services as the world of intelligence and domestic law enforcement. This is an ominous, accelerating trend which thrives on US tax-payer money and prospers in a legal limbo devoid of clear regulatory criteria or accountability mechanisms, leaving the door open for serious abuses. In the words of former CIA division chief and senior analyst Melvin Goodman: “the entire industry is essentially out of control; it’s dangerous!”.

Obama administration uses Blackwater in drone killings

23rd August, 2009

According to a recent report by the New York Times, the Obama administration has retained the services of the notorious Blackwater guards to carry out drone attacks in Afghanistan, denoting no substantive distinction from the Bush administration’s use of Blackwater – now operating under the banner of Xe Services LLC – to carry out ’targeted assassinations’ in Iraq. With the number of military contractors in Afghanistan far exceeding the U.S. soldiers on the ground [*], what has so far been revealed regarding Washington’s arrangements with Blackwater and its more than a dozen affiliate companies might be only the beginning.

Check that tongue! Mobile phones buzz out honeybees

Sweet nothings murmured into a mobile phone spell doom for honeybees, says a study. The booming communication industry is not helping one sector – apiculture – at least. Honey and bee wax are not the only things at stake, though. One-third of our crops need bees to pollinate.

The current rally may well have come too far, too fast.

In the days when football was played by real men, rather than £80 million prima donnas, there was a remedy that could be relied on to treat almost any injury: the magic sponge. Whether you’d sprained your ankle, broken your leg or whacked your head, the good old magic sponge would sort you out, son. Read the rest of this entry »

War Coverage and the Obama Cult

There was a time when Cindy Sheehan couldn’t go anywhere without having a microphone and a TV camera stuck in front of her. As she camped out in front of George W. Bush’s Crawford ranch, mourning the death of her son Casey in Iraq and calling attention to an unjust, unnecessary, and unwinnable war, the media created in her a symbolic figure whose public agony epitomized a growing backlash against the militarism and unmitigated arrogance of the Bush administration. It was a powerful image: a lone woman standing up to the most powerful man on earth in memory of her fallen son. Read the rest of this entry »

Gulf War Toxins in Swine Flu Vaccine

Posted by seumasach on August 24, 2009

So here we have the admission that the vaccine does indeed contain mercury. This is all we need to know to realize that we are dealing with a crime against humanity.

Daily Express

23rd August, 2009

THE new swine flu vaccine contains a deadly brain toxin linked to autism, Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis.

Mercury, a vaccine preservative, was withdrawn from childhood jabs five years ago after evidence linked it to brain damage.

However, the Sunday Express has discovered the pandemic vaccine, to be rolled out across the country within weeks, contains the heavy metal.

It also contains a chemical called squalene, used to stimulate the immune system to respond to the vaccine. Some scientists believe squalene is linked to autoimmune illnesses including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

Where is the Anti-War Movement in the Age of Obama?

Where is the Anti-War Movement in the Age of Obama?

Stephen Sniegoski

Infowars

August 23, 2009

It appears that most liberal opponents of the wars in the Middle East/ Central Asia have ceased their opposition with the Obama presidency. The liberal Democrats who abhorred Bush’s war policy (and most grass roots liberal Democrats did vehemently oppose the Bush war policy although this was not always the case with liberal politicians and media figures) apparently were simply opposed to wars led by Republicans.  As Byron York, a conservative,  writes in the first article below: “For many liberal activists, opposing the war was really about opposing George W. Bush. When Bush disappeared, so did their anti-war passion.” Anti-war protest leader, Cindy Sheehan, agrees completely, stating: “The ‘anti-war’ ‘left’ was used by the Democratic Party. I like to call it the ‘anti-Republican War’ movement.” Read the rest of this entry »
