Iran’s Proposals to UN

Posted by seumasach on May 23, 2008

Unofficial Translation(CASMII)

13 May 2008

Excellency,

As I informed you in my previous communications, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a

responsible Member State of the United Nations Organization, and based on its international

rights and obligations, has always emphasized on the importance of multilateralism.

Unfortunately, a few countries, with political motivations and objectives, have raised some

ambiguities over Iran’s exclusively peaceful nuclear program and have used the UN Organs

as a tool, thus undermining the integrity and credibility of the United Nations. Read the rest of this entry »

History in the making for Hezbollah

Posted by seumasach on May 23, 2008

By Sami Moubayed (ASIA TIMES)

DAMASCUS – British statesman Sir Winston Churchill once said, “History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.” On another occasion, he said, “Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.”

These two quotes came to my mind, as I imagined Hasan Nasrallah, the secretary general of Hezbollah, seated somewhere in Beirut, watching his allies and opponents hammer out a deal in Doha – to his favor – on Wednesday.  Read the rest of this entry »

More on the real reason behind high oil prices

More on the real reason behind high oil prices
Part II
Global Research, May 21, 2008

As detailed in an earlier article, a conservative calculation is that at least 60% of today’s $128 per barrel price of crude oil comes from unregulated futures speculation by hedge funds, banks and financial groups using the London ICE Futures and New York NYMEX futures exchanges and uncontrolled inter-bank or Over-The-Counter trading to avoid scrutiny. US margin rules of the government’s Commodity Futures Trading Commission allow speculators to buy a crude oil futures contract on the Nymex, by having to pay only 6% of the value of the contract. At today’s price of $128 per barrel, that means a futures trader only has to put up about $8 for every barrel. He borrows the other $120. This extreme “leverage” of 16 to 1 helps drive prices to wildly unrealistic levels and offset bank losses in sub-prime and other disasters at the expense of the overall population. Zimbabwe ‘crisis’ and the Uganda ‘success’ story

Posted by seumasach on May 21, 2008

Why is Zimbabwe reported and portrayed to be where it is today? Maybe you already know the answer.

by Timothy Kalyegira
(monitor.co.ug)
As I focus these days on the dark deception at the international level, we turn today to the most extreme example: Zimbabwe. I have followed world media reports extensively but there is something I have not once heard asked or discussed: Why is Zimbabwe, once one of Africa’s most promising countries, where it is today? Or more pointedly, why is Zimbabwe reported and portrayed to be where it is today? Read the rest of this entry »

EU Green Lights Partnership Talks With Russia

Posted by seumasach on May 21, 2008

One cannot stress too much the importance of this agreement, the inevitable consequence of the convergence of European and Russian interests. The ultimate pillar of Anglo-American power is the control of Eastern Europe as a barrier to precisely this kind of agreement, the Mackinder doctrine. As Europe allies itself to Russia, the Atlanticist factions will wither and Europe’s tutelage to Washington will come to an end. Britain will then be faced with the choice of joining Europe in a spirit of co-operation or holding out as a fourth-world,  neo-feudal, failed state.
After 18 months of opposition, the 27 European Union member states finally agreed to launch strategic partnership talks with Russia, a move that green lights negotiations for a new cooperation accord between the nations. Read the rest of this entry »

Zimbabwe’s political opposition deploys its own WMD claim

Posted by seumasach on May 21, 2008

By Stephen Gowans(WHAT’S LEFT)

Zimbabwe’s political opposition and its Western-sponsored civil society allies are concocting stories of an impending genocide to call for Western intervention to oust the economic nationalist Zanu-PF government of Robert Mugabe. Yet they themselves have used threats of violence to destabilize the country to pursue an agenda shaped by and conducive to the interests of Western corporations and investors and the white settler community.
